Plot
In the isolated border town of Reino del Duero, visitors are greeted with an unsettling tradition. Fátima, known as The Collector, gives certain outsiders a seemingly harmless gift. An antique watch, a forgotten doll, a timeworn book… everyday objects that no one would refuse. But what begins as a hospitable gesture soon becomes the seed of a nightmare. Each gift awakens invisible presences, opens doors that should never have been crossed, and drags those who receive them into a fate marked by fear and tragedy.
The Collector is the new feature film by Manuel Sanabria, a filmmaker with an extensive career in film and television, responsible for titles such as La fiesta, Sinfín, El retorno de rock, or the recent Hotel Bitcoin, which reached number 2 on Netflix for several weeks. This time, Sanabria also co-writes the script with Óscar D. Gómez, crafting a story that draws from the tradition of psychological and supernatural horror, echoing classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Conjuring, The Sixth Sense, or Thesis, but with a unique personality.
"The goal is clear: to entertain, to move, to shock, and above all, to provoke fear," says Sanabria. The film not only plays with the paranormal but also with human fragility in the face of the unknown, creating an atmosphere where the everyday becomes threatening and the familiar turns strange.
With a stellar cast led by Daniel Grao, Maggie Civantos, Belén López, Canco Rodríguez, Paco Tous, Assumpta Serna, Roman Rymar, Sua Enparantza, and Ibai Atanes, the film envelops the viewer in a collective narrative of characters trapped in a fate marked by mystery. The cinematography by Carlos P. Gascó, the art by Héctor G. Bertrand, the editing by Estefanía Mora and Alberto Tutxi, and the original music by Pablo García Lozano reinforce a visual and auditory proposal designed to immerse the audience in a disturbing experience.
