Little Trouble Girls

''Little Trouble Girls'' is a delicate film, directed by Urška Djukić, that has marked the 2025 festival season.

A coming-of-age drama that sensitive and deeply explores the ups and downs of adolescence, faith, and desire through the eyes of Lucija, a sixteen-year-old introverted girl studying at a Catholic school. 

Encouraged by her mother, Lucija joins the women's choir at the school, where she befriends Ana-Marija, a charming classmate whose presence lights up a new world of sensations.

When the choir travels to a weekend retreat at a rural convent for intensive rehearsals, the rigidity of the rules, the silences between prayers and songs, and the solemnity of the surroundings trigger a series of experiences that shake Lucija's thoughts. 

There, her attraction to a restoration worker (an older man who crosses her path) acts as a spark that ignites a mix of curiosity, confusion, insecurity, and sexual awakening that challenges both her friendship with Ana-Marija and her ingrained beliefs. 

As she navigates her emotions, Lucija is forced to confront her values, the roles imposed by religion, and social expectations, which strains the group's harmony and reconfigures the dynamics with her peers. 

The film, directed by Urška Djukić in her debut, combines a poetic visual approach with an intimate narrative, where every glance, gesture, and decision contributes to the exploration of identity and youthful vulnerability.
