A Loose End

Santiago, a corporal of the Argentine police, is forced to cross the border into Uruguay, being pursued by other agents who are looking for him for reasons he still does not fully understand. His only refuge is his uniform, which he uses as a calling card, gaining the trust of the locals who see him as one of their own from the neighboring country. With no money, no documents, and no place to stay, he manages to survive.

Wandering through small regional food stalls, Santiago becomes an expert taster of dairy products and cured meats. He feels like a stranger in his own country, but finds comfort in the warmth of Uruguay's simple flavors. Despite the obstacles, his cunning and empathy allow him to go unnoticed, and the very uniform that should betray him enables him to pass as an off-duty agent.

Along the way, he meets several characters who, although they initially seem indifferent, end up offering him help. An elderly woman who takes him in, a fisherman who teaches him to navigate the river, and a young woman with sad eyes, with whom he feels an inexplicable connection. It is she, Mariana, who seems to be the key to his reinvention.

As Santiago rebuilds his life, he begins to dream of a future where he is no longer a fugitive, but a free man, loved, and finally able to find his place in the world.
