The Exiles

Anabel, 18, lives with her Chilean immigrant mother, Delia, in Barcelona. Despite studying and working hard, their lives change completely when they receive a notice that they must vacate the house they are renting, as the building has been acquired by investors.

They both have completely opposite ways of coping with grief following their father's death. Both women will face the uncertainty of a future, which, starting from a complicated social and economic context, they will have to fight hard to achieve. This requires a balance between suffering or pain and the tenderness they seek or the love of their relationship.

'Los Tortuga' takes place between the streets of Barcelona and the characteristic olive groves of Jaén and is the second film by director Belén Funes, winner of the Goya for Best Director for a Novel for her debut film, 'La Hija de un Ladrón'. The film also premiered at the Málaga Film Festival in the Official Competition Section.
