Plot

'María' is the story of the last days of life of the legendary soprano in 1970s Paris. The diva is confined to her apartment in the French capital due to her private struggle with insecurities and tumultuous relationships, one of which was with the Greek-born magnate Aristotle Onassis. Parallel to this personal and internal conflict, she is adored by the entire world for her prodigious voice.

The Greek soprano born in the United States was one of the most important singers of the 20th century. Her beginnings were modest, although success accompanied her from that moment on. Her career was marked by a loss of voice that forced her to retire from opera at the age of 41. After that, she continued to give concerts, and her presence in public life remained, albeit for different reasons.

She passed away at the age of 53. Since then, she has been remembered as a great artist who marked the history of opera. For many, she is a tragic woman; for others, complex... Pablo Larraín in his film seeks to show us the last days of the artist to better understand her identity. Angelina Jolie is the one tasked with bringing the artist to life, sharing space in the songs, as Larraín has made the creative decision to use the combined voices of both.
