This is the first animated movie from Studio Ponoc, founded in 2015 by several ex-employees of Studio Ghibli, including Hiromasa Yonebayashi.
Screened for Studio Ghibli
The director screened the film for his former colleagues at Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki congratulated Yonebayashi, but told him not wanted to see her. Toshio Suzuki and Isao Takahata praised the film and congratulated Yonebayashi for his work.
