Plot

Lucy Mason left her dreams of being an actress behind to become one of the most successful matchmakers in New York City. At Adore, an exclusive dating agency, she has achieved what many consider impossible: bringing together dozens of couples in a city where love always seems just out of reach. But while her clients dream of happy endings, Lucy has given up on her own. Cynical, practical, and convinced that true love is a luxury or an illusion, she prefers to stay on the sidelines, observing—and manipulating—the game from the stands.

When the charming and persistent Harry Castillo bursts into her life, Lucy is forced to question the rules she has always followed. What if she isn't as out of the game as she thought? As an unexpected connection grows between them, her apparent control begins to crumble, revealing cracks in both her professional and personal life.

With a lawsuit threatening to destroy her reputation, an ex who still stirs up old feelings, and a furious client accusing her of treating love like just another business, Lucy will have to confront a question she has avoided her whole life: can someone who makes a living pairing others learn to truly love?

A modern, sharp, and bittersweet look at love, heartbreak, and everything we are willing to negotiate to avoid being alone.

Trivia

John's play

Writer/director Celine Song's name is listed as the playwright for John's play on a poster outside the theater, because the play is actually a real one she wrote back in 2016.

Justin Kuritzkes house

While Lucy and Harry's apartments were filmed on-location, John's apartment was built in-studio. Director Celine Song shared photographs of a place where her husband, Justin Kuritzkes, formerly lived, as a reference point for the dilapidated apartment.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans admitted that John's ratty apartment and obnoxious roommates brought back many memories from his own time as a struggling actor.
