Memory

'Memory' is a Mexican-American drama film written and directed by Michel Franco, Mexican film director, producer and screenwriter of Jewish origin, known for 'Sundown' (2021), 'New Order' (2020) or 'After Lucía ' (2012).

The plot follows the story of a woman named Sylvia, played by Oscar winner for 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye', Jessica Chastain. In her daily routine, she goes to a center as a social worker, she takes care of her daughter and she attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. In short, she leads a fairly simple and organized life. However, one day all that order is completely broken when Saul, played by Peter Sarsgaard ('Shattered Glass', 'An Education'), decides to follow her to her house at the end of one of her high school meetings. This encounter turns Sylvia's life into complete chaos, which will lead her to rekindle memories of her past again.

The 'Memory' cast also includes Merrit Wever as Olivia, Jessica Harper as Samantha, Elsie Fisher as Sara, Brooke Timber as Anna, Josh Charles as Isaac and Tom Hammond as Robert.

This 100-minute film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion for best film at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, where its protagonist received the Volpi Cup for best actor, and has been described by critics as "a union tremendously powerful between filmmaker and cast", "a film touched by existential chiaroscuro" or "a moving drama" in which Chastain and Sarsgaard "are fascinating".
