Münter & Kandinsky

Gabriele (Vanessa Loibl) arrives at the Phalanx, an art academy in Munich that does not admit women and becomes her first challenge. There she meets her beloved professor, Wassily Kandinsky (Vladimir Burlakov), eleven years older and married, but also a creative soulmate. Passion arises instantly: walks in the parks, discussions about the meaning of color, laughter with avant-garde peers like Franz Marc and Paul Klee. Together they buy a house in Murnau, a refuge among mountains and lakes that soon became known as the "Blaues Land" (a place where everything seems to be painted with light).

In the midst of this breath of fresh air, "Der Blaue Reiter" is born, an artistic collective that shakes the foundations of traditional painting. She, with her expressive and bold brushstrokes, and he, with his spiritual exploration of color, become protagonists of a visual revolution. However, as Kandinsky begins to receive praise, artistic recognition, and contracts, Gabriele remains permanently in his shadow. The film does not disguise this: it shows the weight of patriarchy, even within the creative sphere (the contrast between her silenced genius and her vibrant work is poignant).

It is not just a biopic: it is a story of love, power, ambition, and sacrifices. Rosenmüller has used real correspondence, diaries, and authentic quotes to construct a credible and human narrative. We will see philosophical conversations alongside subtle jazz, the bohemian atmosphere of Schwabing, and the mountainous tranquility of Bavaria. And although the relationship crumbles, Münter's flame does not go out: she rises as a strong presence, deserving of recognition.
