Plot
Juani is a girl from the neighborhood who doesn't ask for permission to dream. Tired of a relationship that shrinks her and an environment that seems written so that nothing changes, she decides to take the leap, grabs a suitcase, her best friend, and the courage she has left, and heads to Madrid with the idea of becoming an actress. What she finds, however, is far from the shine that the ads promised. Mass auditions that last minutes, looks that judge her before they hear her, numbers that don't add up at the end of the month, and promises that evaporate as soon as she walks out the door. Among shared apartments, temporary jobs, and rehearsals in front of the mirror, Juani learns the language of the city and that of an industry that often demands you forget where you come from.
On that journey, the past keeps calling, a boyfriend who confuses love with possession, friends who remind her who she "should" be, the temptation to return to the neighborhood and leave the dream for another life. But Juani is stubborn, proud, and quick. From audition to audition, she discovers that it's not enough to be liked, you have to know when to say enough, protect your own voice, and decide how much you're willing to sacrifice without losing yourself along the way. The city bites her and also embraces her, and in that ebb and flow Juani discovers that ambition is not a luxury, but a necessity for those who want to break the limits that others have drawn for her.
"I am Juani" is, thus, a journey of personal affirmation, the story of a girl who makes every closed door a push towards the next one and who faces disappointment with a mix of anger and tenderness. More than a tale of success, the film confronts the price of growing up, saying goodbye to what no longer serves us, negotiating with loneliness, and understanding that dreams are worth it, yes, but only when they don't ask you to renounce yourself. In the end, Juani is not just looking for a role, she is searching for her place in the world, and the certainty that no one will ever tell her who she can or cannot become.
