Plot
The secrets and impunity of the Francoist dictatorship in former Spanish Guinea continue to cast their shadow over current democracy, a past that undoubtedly affects the present of the country. In the late 1950s, Franco's regime managed to silence and erase the crimes committed against activists of the National Liberation Movement of Equatorial Guinea.
Among them was Acacio Mañe, one of the most prominent independence leaders, who was arrested and disappeared without a trace, a victim of the colonial repression carried out by the Francoist dictatorship.
For decades, the official history that has been disseminated has been that of an idyllic colonial past, narrated by the old Spanish colonizers, which conceals the human rights violations and the brutal repression suffered by the Guineans who fought for their freedom, whose basic rights as individuals were violated.
Today, from Africa, Acacio Mañe's family and other descendants of those fighters raise their voices to demand justice, truth, and reparation; being able to heal the wounds of the past is essential for them. This story breaks the imposed silence, unearths the traces of a denied memory, and confronts the complicity of a system that never assumed its historical responsibilities.
