Plot
The film tells the life story of Catherine Marie-Agnès Fal de Saint Phalle, who is renamed Niki. This new name comes from her mother, who at the age of four decides to change her name so she can dedicate herself to art. The artist joined the group of New Realists, which included names like the Swiss Jean Tinguely, whom she would marry for the second time in 1971. Niki created her first Tirs performance paintings in 1961, when she began making her famous feminist sculptures Nanas out of glued paper and resin in 1964. Once the 70s arrived, she moved to Italy for projects, such as the monumental installations like the Tarot Garden in Italy or the Stravinsky Fountain in Paris…
Starring Charlotte Le Bon, John Robinson, and Damien Bonnard, this French drama, which is a biopic, is directed by Céline Sallette ('Casa de tolerancia', 'Malditos' o 'Un verano ardiente') and was nominated at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The film will premiere in the summer of 2025, specifically on August 22.
It narrates the adventures experienced by both her and her family, married with a two-year-old girl. Saint-Phalle is forced to leave the United States during the McCarthy era, traveling to France, where they feel euphoric about the new life that awaits them in a territory far from their own.
