Paula's reviews

The figure and life trajectory of this pioneering artist of Expressionism are prime material for a biographical film -rebel, fighter, early death at age 31, influence silenced by a macho historiography- to such an extent that the director Christian Schwochow (On the other side Of the wall) has not taken the trouble to provide a minimum nerve to transmit it to the audience.
Screen Daily
The film constantly labours the point of her struggle and sacrifices to leave an impression on a man?s world (...) and the result is an often one-dimensional biography of a fascinating life told with an air of worthiness and an agenda that swamps everything else.
Variety
Pioneering female painter Paula Modersohn-Becker is portrayed in loving, colorful strokes in this engaging German biopic.
