Reas

'Reas' focuses on Yoseli, who has a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower on her back and has always wanted to travel, but whose life changed the moment she was arrested at the airport for drug trafficking. Nacho is a trans man who, in his case, was arrested for fraud. Now, in prison, he has formed a rock band with all kinds of people. Whether sweet or tougher, blond or shaved, cis or trans, long-term inmates or those recently incarcerated, everyone has a place here. In this hybrid musical, all the prisoners recreate their lives in a penitentiary in Buenos Aires.

It is a collective work that seeks to reinvent the musical genre. Here, the performers dance and sing about their past in prison, which leads them to relive their lives as if it were fiction. At the same time, they also seek a possible future outside of prison and invent it through imagination and fantasy.

'Reas' becomes the second feature film by its director, Lola Arias. This Argentine writer and director (of theater and film) is a versatile artist who, through her projects, brings together people from different backgrounds and contexts. Some examples of the people she has worked with in film, theater, and literature include war veterans, young refugees, and sex workers.
