Plot

After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with the handsome widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a young newlywed (Lily James) arrives at Manderley, her new husband's imposing family estate on the windswept English coast of Cornwall. Naive and inexperienced, she begins to adjust to the pitfalls of her new life, but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim's first wife, the elegant, mysterious and urban Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive after her tragic death thanks to Manderley's sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas).

Directed by Ben Wheatley ('High Rise', 'Free Fire') and produced by Working Title Films ('Darkest Hour', 'Emma'), 'Rebecca' is a psychological thriller based on the beloved 1938 Gothic novel by Daphne du Maurier. Rounding out the cast is Keeley Hawes as Maxim's sister, Beatrice Lacy; Sam Riley ('Malefica') as Jack Favell, Rebecca's cousin; Tom Goodman-Hill ('Deciphering Enigma') as Frank Crawley, the man in charge of all Manderley?s affairs; Mark Lewis Jones ('The Crown') as Inspector Welch; and Bill Paterson ('Fleabag') as Dr. Baker.

The novel has been adapted up to 5 times to the cinema, the best known being the version directed by Alfred Hitchcock and even has an opera version premiered in 1983.
