During an interview for Kombini at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, writer/director Lola Quivoron stirred a controversy by claiming that most deaths related to the practice of urban rodeos are due to the police who is acting dangerously when trying to make them stop. In reaction, many politicians made their disagreements known.
Based on real details
When Lola Quivoron met Julie Ledru, she realized that her life was very similar to that of her character, so much so that some details of her life ended up in the film.
How she found the protagonist
Writer/director Lola Quivoron has been immersed in the urban rodeo world for a while and had realized that all riders were men. She had been looking for some time for her lead, and stumbled onto the Julie Ledru account @Inconnue_du_95 on Instagram.
