The Carer

Theatrical legend, Sir Michael Gifford, is terminally ill. He is also a foul-mouthed and irascible individual. An Hungarian immigrant called Dorottya comes into his fraught household to act as a carer for him in what seems to be a long line of badly treated caregivers. Dorottya secretly hopes to become Michael's acting pupil but Michael bullies and exploits her until an impromptu exchange from Hamlet reveals a mutual love of Shakespeare and their relationship gradually changes. As Michael mellows, Dorottya transcends her own selfish ambitions, and each individual learns some valuable lessons. However, when Michael is offered a Lifetime Achievement Award and Dorottya persuades him to accept it in person, the resulting fallout sees Dorottya fired and Michael in hospital.
