Noredin Mostafa is a Police Commander who patrols the streets of Cairo collecting protection money, and he's not the only corrupt officer on the force. The film is set in Egypt 2011, just a few weeks before the uprisings.

Noredin?s daily patrols are interrupted when he?s assigned to a murder investigation. An attack at a local hotel has lead to the death of one woman and the disappearance of the only other person to witness the crime, a Sudanese maid called Salwa. Upon a quick inspection, it becomes clear that the victim is pop singer, Lalena. However, just as Noredin begins to unravel the mystery surrounding her death, he receives a phone call from his Police Chief Uncle instructing him that the case has already been closed as a suicide. Despite being advised against it, Noredin pursues the case anyway, and soon realises that what seemed like a random murder has a lot more to do with the Egyptian elite than they'd like to let on.
