Plot

Based on the well-known graphic novel by Joann Sfar, the film is housed in the ancient Jewish community of Algeria during the 1920s. One day, the rabbi in the area discovers that his chattering parrot has been devoured by his cat, Which gives him at least the ability to speak several languages. However, the cat turns out to be a very rude and arrogant animal, which will cause the rabbi to begin teaching the teachings of the Torah, the sacred Jewish scriptures. This is how the cat begins to become a wise animal, respectful and whose language will be of important help to the rabbi. In addition, the cat begins to form a strong friendship with Zlabya, the rabbi's daughter, who teaches him the importance of the spiritual and philosophical legacy. The cat will help its owner to study French and learn Russian language when a painter fled from the Soviet Union arrives in the city. This is how the animal becomes a true source of wisdom. Awarded for Best Film at the prestigious Annecy International Film Festival and nominated for the César Awards.
