Plot
'THX 1138' is the cinematic debut of George Lucas. The 1971 science fiction film was developed from a short film he made whilst studying at the University of South Carolina, which he made in 1967. It tells the story of a futuristic society in the 25th century where conformity and homogeneity are the rule. The people are differentiated only by their numbered identity tags and a government enforced program of drugs controls the populace. The protagonist, THX 1138 (Robert Duvall) stops taking these compulsory drugs and breaks the law when he starts to fall in love with his room mate LUH 3417. As a result, he is imprisoned when she becomes pregnant. Whilst in prison, he meets some companions and they plan their escape. The film was produced by Francis Ford Coppola and written by George Lucas and Walter Murch.
