To All the Boys I've Loved Before's reviews

It?s a pretty standard plot for a teen film (seemingly the only place where fake relationships are common), but the details are what sets this sweet, funny drama apart. The manufactured romance between Lara Jean and Peter drives the story forward, but the emotions feel real (...). This is a movie about trust and taking leaps, and they?re lessons that aren?t just needed by teens.
Indiewire
'To All the Boys' cracks what should be an obvious code: find a sweet protagonist, and even the most outlandish of storylines can work. Yes, Lara Jean?s situation is bizarre (again, she addressed the letters), but Condor?s performance brings Lara Jean to life with wit and sweetness.
Entertainment Weekly
'To All the Boys?' is strictly Disney Channel stuff, but it?s got more substance than you expect. And Condor as Lara Jean has a winning, be-true-to-yourself sense of independence that?s infectious.
Vulture
Teenage fantasy is 'To All the Boys'? vibranium, the inexhaustible resource that fuels all manner of cute hijinks. And yet, it has the nerve to go and deliver a romantic interest (two, if you?re feeling generous) that in every way lives up to the burning ball of emotion that is Lara Jean Covey.
Time
In many ways, the story feels like the teenage rom-coms of years past that Lara Jean loves to watch, but its sensitivity and cultural consciousness improves on its predecessors.
The Hollywood Reporter
You couldn?t truthfully say that hilarity ensues, although the subsequent misunderstandings are mildly diverting. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the film is how Johnson, with an assist from Sofia Alvarez?s workmanlike screenplay, manages to keep this very thinly plotted high concept aloft for so long.
