After the failure of the First Republic, Spain prepares for the Restoration period with the return of the monarchy to the country. After Isabella II abdicated her dynastic rights, her son Alphonse became the legitimate heir to the crown of Spain. In December 1974 monarchic restoration began. Becoming the king of Spain, his mother and the government urge him to marry and have offspring. However, no one would have thought that he fell madly in love with his cousin Mercedes of Orleans, daughter of the Dukes of Montpensier. Although the two parts of the family are not spoken, the love of Alphonse and Mercedes will triumph, marrying on January 23, 1878. For Alphonse, Mercedes was his great love. But the fate was unjust and the young Mercedes died five months after getting married, plunging the king into absolute sadness.
