Winter is coming and 'Game of Thrones' fans are in luck. For a whole year HBO have remained silent, but finally we are beginning to hear the first details about the eighth season, which is due to be released at some point in 2019. In a recent report from Entertainment Weekly, the members of the cast offered up several exciting teasers about the finale of the fiction (but don't worry, no spoilers are ahead).

The first chapter statutes us in Winterfell and is full of various references to the series pilot episode, bringing us a full circle. This time, however, it is not the face of King Robert we will see marching in, but instead that of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and her army. What follows is undoubtedly a mixture of emotion and tension. Some characters have never met before, and others have tense histories of conflict, but all of that will have to be put aside in order to confront the invasion from the Army of the Dead.

Game of Thrones Sansa Stark

In addition, the fact that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has now sworn allegiance to the Mother of Dragons seems to not sit well with Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), or "at least not at first". However, upon meeting Daenerys this must change; the Stark family has always favoured strong women.

Anticipated Reunions

Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), as the right hand man of Khaleesi, should be expected in Winterfell. It is likely that he will also find himself bumping into Sansa, his ex-wife. Another highly anticipated reunion is that of Ayra Stark (Maisie Williams) and Jon, who, despite being very close in the past, have not had the chance to reunite since the first chapter. And then we have Jaime (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright), who have not seen each other since the first threw the other from a tower. If Jaime has managed to find Daenerys and her army before they arrive at Winterfell, well then that could be the mother of all reunions!

What remains clear, however, is that the last season will be marked by unexpected but necessary alliances in order to confront the Army of the Dead. In the words of Bryan Cogman, the co-executive producer: "It's about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death. It's an incredibly emotional, haunting, bittersweet final season, and I think it honors very much what George set out to do, which is flipping this kind of story on its head." Who else cannot wait to watch it?
