SPOILER ALERT!

*This article will reveal the ending of 'Toy Story 4'

Many people refused to acknowledge the production of 'Toy Story 4' until it appeared in cinemas. The ending of the third installment was, for the majority of people, the perfect final touch to a trilogy that defined the childhood of a generation since the first installment was released in 1995. Twenty-four years later, the fourth and final installment has finally generated much better responses than expected. Partly thanks to its final conclusion which, in the fashion of the trilogy's epilogue, put an interesting spin on the theme of the previous films with a Woody who decides to resign from his life as a toy with an owner in order to live life as a free toy alongside Bo Peep. But what if it hadn't ended up like this?

Could the story of Woody and Bo Peep have ended up completely different?

One of the extras brought to us by the release of 'Toy Story 4' on DVD and Blu-Ray includes an alternate ending that would have dramatically altered this storyline. As shown in this piece from Entertainment Weekly, Bo forgets her idea of "Who needs a kid as an owner?" upon realising that Harmony, the girl from the shop that Gabby Gabby wanted as an owner, is the girl for her, the girl with whom she feels she will truly belong.

It goes without saying that this ending would have come completely out of the blue for the viewers who were awaiting a more radical change in the characters, something that, at the very least, reflected what the fourth installment was actually about. Regardless, it's interesting to see how, if even just for a moment, 'Toy Story 4' could have led to a very different ending for Bo and, therefore, a very different decision for Woody, and perhaps even for the saga as a whole. We'll never know, but at least we can enjoy this animated script extract that brings us closer to this alternate ending of the much-loved tetralogy.

'Toy Story 4' in figures

'Toy Story 4' made more than one billion dollars across the world, making it the fifth most watched film of the year as well as the 34th highest grossing film of all time and the sixth within the animated genre, just behind 'Toy Story 3'. Of all of Pixar's films, 'The Incredibles' remains the highest grossing, making it the 3rd highest grossing animated film in history.

'Toy Story 4' will be available in digital format on the 11th October and on DVD and Blu-Ray on the 21st October.
