It's only been a few weeks since 'The Walking Dead' returned with the second round of episodes from its eighth season, but the first episode wasn't too well received. The episode saw the death of one of the series' most beloved characters and we suspect that had something to do with the significant loss of viewers.

Today, TWD has made the news for a different reason. Fans who haven't been all too convinced by this latest season can take a breath of fresh air, because it appears as though Robert Kirkman, creator of the comics, is beginning to look towards the end of the series.

 Robert Kirkman

"I do have an end point in mind for TWD and I think that it's my responsibility and the responsibility of all of the writers on the TV show", he mentioned to Screen Junkies News.

"TWD isn't going to last forever. It may go on for many, many, many more years, but I think that for anyone that's been on that journey for that long, they deserve a satisfying end. They deserve to know the time that they invested in this thing was all working towards something, was building to some kind of reward. So I think to not have any kind of end goal in mind and not have a plan would be terrible", continued Kirkman.

Whilst Kirkman is the brains behind the comics, he's but an executive producer on the AMC TV series. "There is a plan and I do have an end point in mind, it is a far way off, (so don't worry) but we're building to that. So each and every piece of the story is designed to get us hopefully, a satisfying conclusion. But I am fully prepared for everybody to be disappointed", he concluded.

A loyal cast

Kirkman isn't alone in voicing his thoughts on a TWD finale. Actor, Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes in the series has expressed similar sentiments. "I really feel that the fans - and also for my own satisfaction- that there deserves to be an end point. There needs to be an end game and that is something that is definitely being talked about" Lincoln told The Hollywood Reporter. "My relationship with Rick Grimes is far from over", he added.

 Lauren Cohan

Lincoln and the majority of his cast-mates, except for Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, have signed on for a ninth season. Cohan recently asked for a raise in salary that would put her on level with her male co-stars, Lincoln and Norman Reedus (Daryl). Since there's been no news on such a raise, the actress' future on the show is still up for debate.
