Would Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine if he could appear in a film alongside the Avengers?

Whilst the recent, yet still unconfirmed, purchase of 20th Century Fox by Disney will have some serious consequences for the industry, there's only one thing on the minds the Marvel fans: the possibility of an X-Men / Avengers crossover. Clearly the chances are more likely than ever, but what does the only actor we've ever known as Wolverine have to say?

For the moment, Hugh Jackman said he'd only ever do the adamantium claws again if he could appear alongside the Avengers. Back then, that response was as good as saying no; Fox didn't have the same type of agreement Disney had with Sony, nor did such a merger ever seem possible. However, with the purchase on the horizon, will Jackman's Wolverine make a comeback?

The answer to that, I'm afraid, is no. The actor told Collider that he's very much looking forward to the possibility of seeing Wolverine alongside Captain America & co, but the film would have to go ahead without him. "It's interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, «Oh well, that's not gonna happen», and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline - it was just the possibility of it and who knows what's gonna happen, obviously - I was like, «Hang on!» But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there."

So, who'll play the next Wolverine?

Given that Hugh Jackman has very much put his days as Wolverine behind him, if Disney does go ahead with their merger, they'll have their work cut out trying to find someone to fill his shoes.
