Alice in Borderland

'Alice in Borderland' is a Japanese science fiction and thriller drama series that has become one of Netflix's major international titles (producer and distributor), which adapted the eponymous manga by Haro Aso and brought it to a global screen with a fast-paced, visually powerful, and tension-filled style.

Ryōhei Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), a young man disconnected from life, sees his life take a complete turn when he is transported, along with his friends, to a parallel and deserted version of Tokyo known as Borderland. There, they are forced to participate in a series of deadly games, each symbolically represented by cards from the French deck that determine the nature and level of danger of each challenge. To survive, these players must complete impossible trials and maintain “visas” that prolong their stay; if they run out, they are eliminated by lasers falling from the sky without warning.

The main cast includes, in addition to Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi, a skilled and independent survivor who becomes Arisu's ally and emotional counterpart; also appearing are Nijirō Murakami, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, Ayaka Miyoshi, Sho Aoyagi, Riisa Naka, Tina Tamashiro.

Since its first season premiere on December 10, 2020, Alice in Borderland quickly climbed the ranks among the most-watched content on Netflix. Two weeks after its initial release, the platform confirmed the renewal for a second season.

The third batch of episodes was conceived as the series' conclusion and, according to Netflix's own audience report, marked the natural end of the story that accumulated tens of millions of views worldwide.

The impact of 'Alice in Borderland' has been considerable: although it did not reach the cultural level of other series like 'Squid Game', it has established itself as one of the most successful manga adaptations in recent years, appreciated for both its staging and its ability to explore themes such as the value of life, friendship, sacrifice, and human psychology under extreme pressure.
