La caza. Monteperdido

'The Hunt. Monteperdido' is a psychological thriller produced by RTVE in collaboration with DLO Producciones and aired on La 1 of TVE. The series is directed by  Salvador García Ruiz and Álvaro Ron, and is based on the eponymous novel by Agustín Martínez, who also participates as a screenwriter in the television adaptation.

It premiered in 2019 and has a single season of eight episodes that conclude the story. However, due to the success it garnered, an anthology titled 'The Hunt' was created, leading to new seasons set in different environments and featuring various cases.

The plot is set in the Pyrenean village of Monteperdido, where five years ago two girls disappeared without a trace. The village rallied to search for them, but they were never found. 

The case is reopened when one of the girls unexpectedly reappears. However, she remembers nothing about her kidnapping nor does she know what happened to the friend who disappeared with her.

As the new investigation progresses, the villagers are reluctant to cooperate; they all seem to hide secrets they prefer to keep locked away. Two agents from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard will be in charge of uncovering the truth amidst distrust, silence, and tension.

'The Hunt. Monteperdido' had a significant impact due to its careful psychological treatment of the characters and its ability to maintain intrigue until the end. It established itself as the format for rural thrillers in recent Spanish fiction and confirmed TVE's commitment to high-quality genre productions.

The cast is led by Megan Montaner, Alain Hernández, and Francis Lorenzo, accompanied by Pablo Derqui, Carla Díaz, Bea Segura, and Jorge Bosch, among others.
