Peaky Blinders

‘Peaky Blinders’ is a British TV series produced by BBC in collaboration with Tiger Aspect Productions, created and written by Steven Knight. It premiered in 2013, aired for six seasons, and concluded in 2022.

The first season is set in 1919, just after World War I, in the industrial city of Birmingham (England). The story focuses on the Peaky Blinders criminal gang, a family dedicated to illegal betting, smuggling, and other criminal activities.

The leader of the clan is Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), one of the most feared criminals of the time, a cold, intelligent, and deeply ambitious man. Tommy runs a horse betting establishment that serves as a front for his illegal businesses while trying to expand the family's power beyond Birmingham. 

His moves do not go unnoticed and will soon attract the attention of Chief Inspector Chester Campbell (Sam Neill), sent from Belfast with the mission of eradicating organized crime in the city, which will lead to an intense game of power and strategies.

The main cast includes Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Helen McCrory (Polly Gray), Joe Cole (John Shelby), Sophie Rundle (Ada Shelby), Finn Cole (Michael Gray), Tom Hardy (Alfie Solomons), Adrien Brody, and Anya Taylor-Joy, among others.

Peaky Blinders had a significant cultural impact, noted for its meticulous aesthetic, its anachronistic soundtrack featuring contemporary rock, its portrayal of post-war Britain and the construction of morally ambiguous characters. 

The series became a global phenomenon, influenced fashion and music, and was widely acclaimed by critics. Thanks to its success, it received awards, international recognition, and the announcement of a movie ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’, where the story of the Shelby clan will continue.
