Sinopsis
After several adaptations on the small screen, 'Star Trek' returns to TV, thus relaunching a franchise that comes back with significant narrative and aesthetic changes. 'Star Trek: Discovery', the production was handled by CBS Television Studios in collaboration with Secret Hideout.
It represents a new phase within the universe created by Gene Roddenberry, which opts for a more serialized, darker, and emotional vision and creates a distance from the classic episodic format.
The project was initially led by Bryan Fuller, who had previously worked as a writer and co-producer on 'Star Trek: Voyager' and had gained great recognition thanks to the acclaimed 'Hannibal'. However, he left the series during its development. Nevertheless, before doing so, he decided to lay the creative foundations for this new installment.
Additionally, familiar faces from the saga are involved, such as Nicholas Meyer, writer and director of 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan' and 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country', who will take on the role of consulting producer.
This new series will introduce characters never before seen in the saga, allowing for the exploration of new worlds and civilizations and covering dramatic arcs never previously addressed. The story primarily focuses on Michael Burnham, an officer raised on Vulcan whose perspective breaks with tradition by not placing the captain as the absolute center of the narrative.
The series aired from 2017 to 2024 and consisted of five seasons. It also marked the television return of 'Star Trek' after more than a decade of absence, revitalizing the franchise and paving the way for the development of new spin-off series.
One of the standout aspects of Star Trek: Discovery is its visual imagery, much more cinematic than in previous installments, with a significant increase in budget, state-of-the-art special effects, and a modern production design that reinterprets classic icons of the saga.
The main cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, and David Ajala.
