The Mindy Project

Created and starring Mindy Kaling, 'The Mindy Project' is a contemporary romantic comedy that combines irreverent humor, pop culture, and an honest, albeit exaggerated, look at the romantic and professional life of a modern woman, inspired by her own mother. The series follows Dr. Mindy Lahiri, a brilliant yet chaotic gynecologist obsessed with romantic comedies, who works in a private practice in New York while trying to turn her messy love life into the perfect story worthy of a movie.

Mindy tries, along with her coworkers, to balance her professional and personal life. This will not be easy, as the protagonist has real issues when it comes to love: she wants and expects her life to be a romantic comedy, with love arriving just like in, for example, 'When Harry Met Sally'. But life is not like that, and little by little the doctor will have to carve her way through a harsher and less ideal world. Mindy will not be alone on her journey: she will be accompanied by Jeremy Reed, a handsome British doctor; Danny Castellano, her office nemesis; Peter Prentice, another doctor who was also an athlete in college, and her favorite nurse, Morgan Tookers.

Originally aired by Fox Broadcasting Company and later by Hulu between 2012 and 2017, the series stands out for its agile style, its light yet incisive feminist approach, and its diverse representation of characters. With a narrative that mixes intimate confession and social satire, 'The Mindy Project' offers a fresh portrait of the contradictions between independence, romanticism, and professional success in contemporary urban life.
