Biography
Hiba Abouk made her name playing one of the most memorable television heroines of the past decade, yet behind the actress lies a story of strikingly mixed roots. She was born in Madrid on 30 October 1986 to a family of Tunisian immigrants, and her real name is Hiba Aboukhris Benslimane. She was educated at the French Lycée in the capital, studied Arabic philology and earned a degree in drama from the RESAD, a multicultural background that would shape much of her career.
Stardom with 'El Príncipe'
After an almost fleeting debut in the series 'El síndrome de Ulises' (2008), she gradually built a name with roles such as the uninhibited Candela in 'Con el culo al aire' and a part in the period drama 'El corazón del océano'. Her big break came in 2014, when she played Fátima Ben Barek in 'El príncipe', a huge Telecinco hit set in the Ceuta neighbourhood of the same name.
Her doomed love story with the character played by Álex González hooked millions of viewers and turned her into a hugely popular face. The role, for which her fluent Arabic proved a real asset, earned her a nomination for the Iris Award for Best Actress and made her one of the few Spanish actresses of Arab descent to reach mainstream stardom.
Screen work and beyond
Established as a leading lady, Abouk balanced television with cinema. On the big screen she appeared in the ensemble drama 'Lavapiés' (2014) and the comedy 'The Caribbean, All Inclusive' (2019), while continuing to add credits in series such as 'Madres' (2021). She has also worked beyond Spain, taking part in French productions.
A very public private life
Abouk's fame grew even further because of her love life. In 2020 she married the Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi, a Paris Saint-Germain star, and the couple had two sons, Amín and Naím.
The marriage ended in 2023 in one of the most talked-about divorces in the Spanish press, an ordeal the actress admitted left her badly shaken. Now single and focused on raising her children, Hiba Abouk keeps combining acting with a notable public presence.
