Biography
Luis Merlo was born on June 13, 1966, in Madrid. As a child, he got used to travelling with his parents, Carlos Larrañaga and María Luisa Merlo, who were also actors, and to see them in their theater tours, getting used to seeing them acting and in the backstages, with his three siblings: Amparo Larrañaga, Kako Larrañaga, and Pedro Larrañaga; Pedro Larrañaga is married to the actress Maribel Verdú. Thus, as a kid, Merlo contemplated the art of interpretation as something natural. The influence of his maternal grandfather, Ismael Merlo, who took care of him after the divorce of his parents, reinforced his idea. The fact that he published an album meant for children corroborates his interest in artistics. Merlo took dance classes for a year after his adolescence, after which he graduated in Drama. When he finished his studies, Mario Gas gave him his very first chance to act in a version of Salomé, offered by the company of Núria Espert in 1985.
