Plot
''83' is an Indian sports drama film about one of the most incredible victories in the history of cricket and a defining moment in Indian sports culture. It tells the story of the life of Kapil Dev (Ranveer Singh, 'Gully Boy', 'Simmba'), a man born to merchants in the north of India. Dev has a gift as a fast bowler and it is this gift and dedication that leads to him becoming the captain of the Indian cricket team and leading them on to win the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
''83' is directed by the acclaimed Bollywood director Kabir Khan ('The Forgotten Army', 'Phantom') and features a score written by Julius Packiam ('Sultan', 'Tubelight') with songs by Pritam. Joining Ranveer Singh in the cast are Deepika Padukone ('Happy New Year', 'Finding Fanny'), Tahir Raj Bhasin ('Time Out', 'Love Shots'), Saqib Saleem ('Race 3', 'Kapow'), Ammy Virk ('Bambukat', 'Angrej'), Jiiva ('Gypsy', 'Gorilla'), Harrdy Sandhu ('Good Newwz', 'Chandigarh Mein'), Sahil Khattar ('Fair & Square', 'The Expedition'), Chirag Patil ('Love Betting', 'Wake Up India'), Jatin Sarna ('Darbar', 'Sacred Games') and Nishant Dahiya ('Kedarnath').
The film was originally scheduled for cinematic release on the 10th April 2020, but this has been postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
