Ashkal

In a modern district of the gardens of Carthage, in Tunisia, the burnt body of a security guard appears, his lifeless body being found on a construction site. A policeman in his 50s named Batal is in charge of the investigation and is assisted by his 30-year-old niece Fatma. Beginning their investigation by questioning the workers at the construction site near the crime scene, both Batal and Fatma have no idea what is in store for them.

This French-Tunisian film is directed by Youssef Chebbi, a musician and director from Tunisia who already in 2010 directed his first short film 'Vers le Nord'. One of his greatest achievements came from collaborating with Mohamed Ismail Louati and Ala Eddinne Slim, directing 'Babylon' in 2012, a documentary dealing with Libyan refugees at the Tunisian border.

This documentary was awarded at the Festival International de Cinéma de Marseille (FIDMarseille) and in the same year he released another short film titled 'Les Profondeurs'.

Ashkal was premiered internationally at several film festivals such as the Cannes Directors' Fortnight, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Phoenix Film Festival, the Imagine Film Festival, the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Warsawia Film Festival.
