A Missing Part

Jay (Romain Duris) has been living in Tokyo for years, trapped in a nighttime routine as a taxi driver and isolated from everything that was once important to him. His life in France is behind him, his career as a chef... and above all, his daughter Lily, whom he hasn't seen since she was three years old. Japanese laws do not recognize shared custody, and after the separation, Jay was completely excluded from her upbringing.

But everything changes one night when an injured teenager gets into his taxi. Jay senses something: that girl is Lily. She does not recognize him. He does not dare to tell her. From that moment on, he decides to approach her discreetly, becoming her regular driver to school, trying —with patience and silence— to rebuild a bond broken by time and distance.

As the days go by, this clandestine relationship between father and daughter fills with small gestures, shy games, and moments of complicity. But Jay is at his limit: what he is doing is illegal, and he risks everything —his freedom, his future— to regain a part of himself that he thought was lost.

Directed with sensitivity by Guillaume Senez, 'A Daughter in Tokyo' is a story about absent fatherhood, the fragility of bonds, and the pain of loving in a country that does not allow for a return. An intimate, contained, and deeply human film.
