Plot
Aisha (Letitia Wright) is a young Nigerian woman seeking asylum in Ireland, but without achieving the desired peace and tranquility, she has been moving through labyrinths between social services and bureaucracy. Alone in the country and unwilling to give in to the demands of the authorities, thus sacrificing her dignity, Aisha finds an ally and support in Conor (Josh O'Connor), a young Irishman with a troubled past who works in the house in which Aisha lives. Together they will fight to maintain their new friendship while facing the increasingly serious situation of Aisha.
Frank Berry, director of the film, says that the inspiration for creating 'Aisha' came while researching 'Michael Inside', his latest project. Reporting for that film he discovered that the prison system and the Irish immigration system were run by the Department of Justice, and this sparked his curiosity to know more about people coming to Ireland for international protection. In that search he met Lucky Khambule, co-founder of Movementof Asylum Seekers Ireland, who helped him meet many people who came to the country seeking asylum and who were in the same situation as Aisha in the film. The film is inspired in all these situations and shows how these people have to deal with al the legal procedures.
