Amerika Square

Billy (Yannis Stankoglou) and Nakos (Makis Papadimitriou) are two Greek friends who coincide in the Plaza América in Athens, in 2016, with a refugee and former Syrian military doctor, an African singer and a human trafficker. The four face in a totally opposite way the complexities of the so-called refugee crisis, which is strongly affecting their country and where it is a constant debate. Billy, tattooist, is against deportations and in favor of giving shelter to migrants fleeing the war; while his friend Nakos, old, single and racist, prefers to keep the borders closed, he sees himself as a victim in front of the wave of refugees.

Combining a kinetic visual style with a raw and harrowing headline narration, 'Amerika Square' serves as an unwavering look at the economy of mass migration, where "borders are business."
