Plot
''Balearic'' is a movie directed by Ion De Sosa with dramatic, fantastical, suspenseful, and adventurous elements.
On the eve of San Juan, a group of young people on a Mediterranean island sneak into the pool of a luxury villa. They settle in the house determined to celebrate the beginning of summer and bid farewell to their youth before taking separate paths after the summer months.
What starts as a few carefree days ends up becoming a nightmare. When they jump into the pool, three Doberman dogs appear; the guard dogs watch them fiercely and trap them in the water.
As the minutes pass, the group of friends begins to lose patience. The sun is at its highest point, and in the pool, no speed or agility is of any use as the dogs thwart any escape plan. In a vain attempt to save themselves, one of them ends up seriously injured by bites.
In a nearby villa, a contrasting situation is unfolding. The neighbors are celebrating a party with music, laughter, and carefree attitudes. The boundary between the two classes, those who trespass and those who live there, is emphasized. For the latter, they live in a reality anesthetized to the pain of others, where personal enjoyment is what matters most.
Through a bright and summery atmosphere, with typical Mediterranean landscapes, the film explores themes such as class inequality, generational disconnection, and moral claustrophobia.
The pool against horror, the party against silenced violence. Individualism confronts social comfort. The party and summer meet freedom and youth. A paradisiacal place like a luxury villa can harbor all kinds of horrors. No neighbor will come to anyone's aid; joy prevails over empathy and community.
