Beef

The film by Ingride Santos, ‘'Beef'’, confronts the mind and the heart. Lati is a young Afro-descendant rapper living in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Barcelona. Since her father's death, rap has become her refuge and a way to survive her present.

After two years of mourning, Lati continues to dream of succeeding in the world of freestyle battles. She knows it won't be easy; that environment works against her, and she will have to put in effort to fight against what is already written. A universe dominated by men and verbal rules that exclude those who don't fit the mold.

On the other hand, Lati's mother is a woman with traditional Muslim values. From her point of view, rap is nothing more than dangerous, vulgar, and a path that leads away from what she considers “correct” for her daughter.

To keep her mother from finding out, Lati starts training in secret with Judy. Once a promise on the world stage, Judy now dedicates herself to giving clandestine classes to young people she believes have talent.

A mix of technical learning and a desire for reconciliation with her artistic aspirations, while fighting against the family and cultural expectations that press down on her to try to steer her away from that path.

In an unexpected twist, Lati is faced with a big question that pits her desires against her duties: to follow her dream in the world of rap or to give it up to fulfill her mother's teachings.

A debate of identity, gender, belonging, and rebellion accompanied by music. A voice for the invisible neighborhoods and for those young people who fight every day for the light to shine on their efforts, even if it means the sun shines until the end of the world.
