Plot

'#Blue_Whale' is a Russian horror thriller directed by Anna Zaytseva and originally released in Russia in 2021.

It is based on the so-called whale game, a type of fake game that originated on the Russian social network Vkontakte in early 2016. Created by a 21-year-old with the aim of "cleansing society" of those he considered "useless in life" by pushing them to suicide. The game essentially consisted of completing tasks set by the administrators, with the general final task being to take one's own life.

In the film, the story begins with the mysterious suicide of a young girl with no apparent problems who voluntarily places herself on the tracks of a train. Her older sister, Dana, a rebellious and intelligent student, decides to try to find out what could have led her sister to take her own life. Thus, as Dana begins to explore her sister's online accounts, she discovers a sinister game in which she decides to participate in order to prevent more young people from falling into this "death group".

'#Blue_Whale' stars Anna Potebnya, Anastasia Bratsyun, Timofey Eletskiy, Danya Kiselyov, and Olga Pipchenko, among others. The film was released directly to video-on-demand in most markets except Russia, although it has achieved cinematic distribution in some Latin American countries.
