Calle Málaga

Teresa lives in a bright city in North Africa; she has been settled in an old building on Calle Málaga for over five decades. There she has built a discreet but intense life: friendships forged in the doorways, afternoons of coffee watching the slow transit of the neighborhood, and a marriage that, although it now belongs to the past, left indelible marks in every corner of the apartment.

When her daughter returns from Spain with the firm intention of selling the house and moving her to a residence, Teresa feels that they are not only taking away her roof but also her history. For the daughter, the move is a practical decision; for Teresa, it is the prelude to uprooting. Determined not to become a living memory, the protagonist begins to walk through the neighborhood with new eyes, rediscovering complicities, old affections, and a vitality she thought was extinguished.

In that process, an unexpected friendship arises with a widowed bookseller who awakens in her a late and deeply honest hope. Amid intimate conversations and silences filled with meaning, Teresa understands that defending her home is also defending her right to continue choosing how to live.

Directed by Maryam Touzani and starring Carmen Maura, 'Calle Málaga' reflects on the passage of time, identity in exile, and the courage to reinvent oneself when everything seems to be decided by others.
