Christy

'Christy' is a biographical American film directed by David Michôd with a screenplay by Michôd himself along with Mirrah Foulkes. The film tells the story of Christy Martin's rise to fame, considered one of the most famous female boxers in the United States during the 1990s and 2000s. It is produced by Black Bear Pictures and Anonymous Content and stars actress Sydney Sweeney in the role of Martin. It premieres on November 7, 2025, in the United States after receiving acceptable reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Christy Martin, popularly known as "the miner's daughter" due to her father's profession, begins her professional boxing career at the age of 21. Before that, she tried various sports, including basketball, which she played semi-professionally during high school. It is there that she comes out and has a relationship with a teammate, which her parents do not approve of.

In boxing, Martin gradually makes a name for herself until she fights Deirdre Gogarty in 1996, a match that is broadcast alongside the fight between Mike Tyson and Frank Bruno, which boosts her popularity and that of the sport in the country. She retires in 2011. In her private life, she marries her 47-year-old manager in 1991 "for convenience" and later claims that she was emotionally and physically abused by him, in addition to being introduced to drugs.

In addition to Sweeney, 'Christy' features a cast that includes Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O'Brian, Ethan Embry, and Chad L. Coleman, among others. It was filmed entirely in North Carolina.
