Plot
Ángela is deaf and about to become a mother for the first time with her hearing partner, Héctor. As they eagerly await the arrival of their baby, Ángela begins to face deep doubts and fears about her ability to communicate with her daughter and how to raise her in a world that rarely considers the perspective of deaf people and those with other functional diversities. The tension grows as the challenges of motherhood, communication barriers, and other problems put their relationship to the test, forcing them to reconsider how they relate to each other and to their environment. As the baby grows, Ángela struggles to preserve her identity and her way of understanding the world, trying to ensure that her daughter grows up connected to both realities she will live in: the hearing one and the deaf one. Inspired by the 2021 short film of the same name, Sorda is an intimate and powerful drama about motherhood, society, difference, inclusion, and love, starring deaf actress Miriam Garlo and directed by Eva Libertad. The film combines sign language and spoken dialogue to deliver a deeply inclusive and emotionally moving cinematic experience that raises important questions.
