Plot
The story of ''Dreaming of Lions'' follows Gilda (Denise Fraga), a Brazilian woman living in Lisbon who suffers from spinal cancer and only wishes to "die without pain". Several failed suicide attempts, which end in comically absurd failures, lead her to seek help from a clandestine company, an organization called "Joy Transition International" that offers talks on euthanasia and suicide for terminally ill individuals. It is there that she meets Amadeus, a shy young man who works at a funeral home. They decide to embark on a journey together to make their dream of ending their lives a reality.
Paolo Marinou-Blanco, a Portuguese director born in the U.S., directs 'Dreaming of Lions', a film that represented Mallorca at the Cannes Film Festival, a Brazilian, Spanish, and Portuguese co-production, also co-produced by Luis Ortas thanks to support from the Mallorca Film Commission.
The cast is led by Denise Fraga ('Por Trás do Pano', 'O auto da Compadecida'), João Nunes Monteiro ('Mosquito', 'Wild'), Joana Ribeiro ('Madre Paula', 'A promessa'), Victória Guerra ('Catherina and the others', 'Las líneas de Wellington', 'Amor impossivel'), Sandra Faleiro ('Las propiedades'), Roberto Bomtempo ('Lost in the Night'), and António Durães ('Lovers on Borders').
