El rey

'El Rey' is the film adaptation of the play written by Alberto San Juan. Directed by San Juan himself and Valentín Álvarez, 'El Rey' gives a different vision of what happened during and after the Spanish Transition. With previous documentation work, the film narrates real events of the life of King Emeritus Juan Carlos I with fictitious dialogues.

In 2014, Juan Carlos I abdicates and his son, under the name of Felipe VI, is proclaimed new King of Spain. That's when Juan Carlos I lives a nightmare, a dream experience that runs throughout his life since he was 10 years old, when he arrived in Spain for the first time. During this experience, he is reunited with many people who have marked his life and Spain: Franco, Carrero Blanco, Adolfo Suárez, Felipe González, Antonio Tejero, his little brother Alfonso, etc.
