Faruk

Faruk Özge, a man over 90 years old, becomes the unexpected protagonist of the film directed by his daughter, the screenwriter and filmmaker Aslı Özge.

The starting point is the imminent demolition of the apartment block in Istanbul where Faruk has spent much of his life. While his daughter films, he actively participates in the community meetings, firmly trying to delay a process that threatens to erase not only a building but also the memories and identity of those who inhabit it.

What initially seemed like a simple documentary record soon transforms into a delicate game between reality and representation, where the boundaries between the lived and the filmed blur until they become inseparable.

With sensitivity and clarity, Özge paints an intimate and moving portrait of the passage of time, resistance to change, and the fragility of human connections.

Recognized at the Berlin International Film Festival 2024, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize – Panorama, this work captivates with its ability to turn a personal story into a universal reflection on memory, belonging, and the inevitable transformation of the spaces we inhabit.

The film premieres in theaters on August 29.
