Plot
The film is structured in three autonomous but deeply connected acts, built around the same event: the reunion of a fragmented family. Through three interrelated stories, the film observes how adult siblings are forced to come together after years of emotional and physical distance, facing unresolved wounds, buried resentments, and the persistent imprint of parents marked by coldness and emotional incapacity.
The first act, “Father,” set in the United States, focuses on the paternal figure and how his absent or poorly exercised authority has shaped the children's lives. The reunion reveals a contained tension, where unspoken words weigh as heavily as silences, and where confrontation always seems on the verge of exploding without ever fully resolving.
In “Mother,” set in Dublin, the focus shifts to the mother, exploring the ambiguity of her role within the family unit. The physical closeness of the reunion contrasts with an emotional distance that has become structural, highlighting how care, guilt, and dependence can also turn into forms of abandonment.
The final act, “Sister Brother,” takes place in Paris and concentrates on the relationship between the siblings, now without the direct mediation of the parents. Here, the past is reconfigured from the present: affections, jealousy, and loyalties are exposed more clearly, revealing to what extent family is an unbreakable bond, even when it seems irreparably damaged.
