Plot
Set in Rangoon, Burma, in the year 1917, the film follows a couple who were about to get married. Edward is a British Empire official who decides to flee from his fiancée just on the day they were supposed to marry, which leads him on a long journey that begins with some relief, only to continue with panic and later melancholy for what he has left behind.
Thus, the cowardly Edward begins to find himself in an existential doubt where he wonders how Molly, his fiancée, will fare. For her part, she remains determined to get married, so she starts to take Edward's escape as something fun, thus beginning a joyful adventure that contrasts with the disheartened flight of the sad Edward.
This romantic drama is directed by Miguel Gomes ('That Dear Month of August' or 'Tabu'). It was thanks to this 'Grand Tour' that the Portuguese director won the Best Director award at Cannes 2024. The film stars Gonçalo Waddington ('One Thousand and One Nights: Volume 2. The Disconsolate') as Edward and Crista Alfaiate (the 'One Thousand and One Nights' trilogy) as Molly. Additionally, it features other popular actors and actresses in Portugal such as Cláudio da Silva, João Pedro Vaz, and Teresa Madruga.
