Plot
Happy Gilmore is passionate about ice hockey, but his explosive personality and lack of technique keep him away from any success in that sport. Aimlessly drifting through life, Happy faces a series of misfortunes: his girlfriend leaves him, and his beloved grandmother is evicted from her home for not being able to pay the back taxes. Desperate to help her and with no other source of income, Happy accidentally discovers an unusual talent: he has an incredibly powerful swing that can drive a golf ball over 400 yards.
Convinced that he can make money quickly, he decides to enter professional golf tournaments, a world completely foreign to his rebellious and vulgar attitude. His rough style, lack of manners, and unpredictable behavior clash with the traditional etiquette of golf, but they also make him a media sensation. Fans adore him for his authenticity and his funny outbursts, while more conservative players, especially the arrogant champion Shooter McGavin, see him as a threat to the sport.
As Happy progresses on the circuit, he not only struggles to earn money to get his grandmother's house back but also to learn to control his temper and become a true professional. With the help of his quirky coach and the support of a circuit representative who believes in him, Happy will have to face his own demons and prove that, with heart and determination, even golf can become a sport for misfits.

Trivia
Dennis Dugan
When Dennis Dugan told Bob Barker that a stunt double would be used in the fight scene, Barker insisted on doing his own stunts, saying, "Wait a minute, I know how to fight."
Mr. Larson
Whenever Mr. Larson is on screen, he either stands still or leans on something. In 1992, Richard Kiel was in a serious car accident that left him unable to balance unassisted.
Carl Weathers
Before his first tournament, Happy asks Chubbs why he didn't play a real sport, "like football, or somethin'." Carl Weathers was a professional football player before becoming an actor.
